Short Course on: “Advanced Numerical Methods for Environmental Modeling”

The ELEDIA@UniTN – DICAM announces that it is possible to register to the course on

Advanced Numerical Methods for Environmental Modeling

Laboratory of Applied Mathematics, University of Trento, Italy
On site and ONLINE via ZOOM

Lecturers: Profs. Ilya Peshkov, Annunziato Siviglia
Dates: 16 September – 04 October 2024
Fee: 216 EUR (online)
ECTS: 6

This advanced short course is primarily designed for Master’s, PhD students, and practitioners in applied mathematics, scientific computing, environmental engineering, computational physics and computational mechanics.

Summary: The course consists of a structured intensive 3 week program of 75 hours (5 hours/day) of theoretical lectures and computer laboratory exercises on advanced numerical methods for hyperbolic and nonlinear parabolic partial differential equations with applications in environmental engineering and science. The course covers standard explicit and flux-splitting finite volume methods for hyperbolic equations, semi-implicit finite volume methods for hyperbolic and nonlinear parabolic equations, e.g. low Mach and low Froude number flows, sediment transport (Exner equation), solidification (icing, Stefan model), ecomorphodynamic (vegetation growth, death, and mutual interaction with sediments). Special emphasis is put on practical implementation of the discussed numerical methods.
