CELONA Luigi

Technological Research Director (Dirigente tecnologo)

Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN)

CELONA Luigi received the Laurea degree in electronic engineering from the University of Catania, Catania, Italy, in 1995.,He is the Technology Research Director of the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare-Laboratori Nazionali del Sud (INFN-LNS). He has experience in all the design stages of an ion source: from mechanical design and manufacturing through the installation and final commissioning. His main field of activity covers all aspects of the production of singly and highly charged beams together with their acceleration to increase the performances of particles accelerators for nuclear and applied physics. He is also active in research and development, proposing different innovative concepts concerning the role of microwaves in the development of electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) and microwave sources. He is actively involving in the construction and development of many different ion sources, carrying out various experiments at major facilities worldwide (Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI), Commissariat à l’énergie atomique (CEA), Michigan State University (MSU), Laboratoire de Physique Subatomique et de Cosmologie (LPSC), Jyväskylän yliopiston fysiikan laitos (JYFL), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), and so on). In the EU framework, he took part in several steering committees to coordinate R&D activities on ECR ion sources of the major European physics labs.,Mr. Celona is a member of the INFN Machine Advisory Committee as an ion source expert and the Conseil Scientifique et Technique du Département des Accélérateurs, de Cryogénie et de Magnétisme, CEA.
