abstract: Nowadays, museum managers are particularly interested in the smart control of the lighting system of the building, in order to improve as much as possible the quality of the exhibitions and - more in general - the overall experience of the visitors. Moreover, smart lighting in modern museums is a valuable solution for achieving energy efficiency and power saving. Within this context, this work is aimed at studying and developing an innovative methodology for the smart control of lights in a museum environment. The basic idea is that (i) distributed sensors measure the light conditions near the artworks and (ii) a centralized control unit processes this information and sets the proper dimmer profile of the smart lamps in real-time, in order to obtain the desired lighting conditions. In order to validate the proposed algorithm, an experimental validation in a real environment is carried out and the obtained results are discussed.
